About me and my therapy practice
Counselling can be used as a form of 'emotional maintenance' as well as to help overcome some of life's bigger hurdles. I work closely with my clients to help them find their own unique path towards healing and self-discovery, resulting in improved self-awareness, expansion, and growth. Reoccurring life patterns, unwanted behaviours or worries, relationship difficulties, change and loss are all themes which I explore collaboratively with my clients.
As an integrative counsellor I draw on a rich blend of humanistic theory (Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis). This means I can tailor my approach for each and every client. I aim to help my clients get to know themselves better and to reconnect by uncovering patterns and enabling them to make conscious choices. Even six sessions can go a long way when touching on a certain aspect of your life or in terms of gaining self-awareness.
My journey into counselling was driven by a mix of personality traits and deep-seated values alongside curiosity around human behaviour. I am passionate when it comes to seeing people overcome life's challenges and embrace their true selves.
I offer a secure, impartial, professional and confidential working environment. Regular supervision ensures my work is ethical and safe. I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and hold a current DBS certificate. I hold a Level 4 diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and an MA Hons in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. In addition to my private practice, I also work for Cotswold Counselling, Cirencester.
Practice description
Initially I offer a complimentary 20 minute telephone call at a mutually convenient time so that you can find out a bit more about how I work and ask any questions. It is very important that you feel comfortable working with me and this short session provides an opportunity to get a 'feel' for the sort of therapist I am. If you do decide to proceed, I will then request your contact details, doctor's details and address, by email. All information is held securely and confidentially. A link will then be emailed separately for payment. This holds your session slot. Each session can be paid for separately. A session lasts 50 minutes and regular sessions (usually weekly) are most beneficial. Clients are typically seen for at least six sessions to start and for as long as they feel that it is helpful thereafter. There is no charge for advance cancellation (24 hours).
My first session
After running through how we will work together in more detail, our first session will be spent getting to know each other better and working out what you hope to achieve from counselling. You may not be sure at this stage and it is fine to use this time as a safe 'container' for exploration. Together we will start to tailor a plan based on your needs and expectations. This is all done in a gentle conversational way and your 'plan' is flexible and can be revisited and tweaked at any stage.
