About me and my therapy practice
I offer a compassionate and confidential space for you to explore any difficulty you may be experiencing. We can work together to make sense of your situation and feelings. I will listen exquisitely, gently challenge your beliefs and encourage fresh perspectives. Through small shifts you may find an alternative way of thinking. This approach builds on the momentum that brought you to therapy in the first place. I will work with you for you to feel understood and more at ease in your life.
You may have experienced something quite difficult or perhaps you are suffering from anxiety or low mood, relationships might not be going so well, or you feel stressed and overwhelmed. My integrative therapeutic approach draws on Gestalt, Attachment and Psychodynamic theories. It is a talking therapy, at times incorporating creative interventions and psychological education to support our work together. I have undertaken training to enhance therapy for people with ADHD and/or Autism.
I believe that past events do impact us in the present but we don't need to go digging around looking for them. If something is impacting you it will show up in your day to day life in your relationships, memories, thoughts and general wellbeing. We will focus on these present day occurrences. We will work to bring greater awareness to your emotions, befriending them and finding out what is important to you and what you need to move forward.
Qualifications
- Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, Iron Mill College Exeter (2yrs)
- Level 6 Diploma in Gestalt Psychotheraoy, The Gestalt Centre/London Metropolitan University (1yr)
- Level 3/4 Certificate in Humanistic Counselling Skills, The Gestalt Centre (1yr)
My first session
It is important that you find a therapist you feel comfortable with, therefore I suggest we meet for a free 20 minute online consultation. This initial meeting will give you a sense of who I am and how we can work together. From there you can decide whether you would like to book a first session.
The first session is an assessment session so I can find out more about you and your situation. It is a time to continue to discuss what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get out of therapy. We will also discuss the counselling contract and any questions or concerns you might have.
I offer short term (6-12 weeks) and long term (open ended) therapy. I usually suggest committing to an initial six sessions, following the initial sessions you may choose to continue in an open ended way.
