My working days are Monday to Wednesday. I have a range of daytime appointments available, as well as after work and early evening appointments.

I work from my therapy room in Pinhoe, with ample parking and convenient train and bus links.

About me and my therapy practice

Life can be hard sometimes and struggling with things alone is the loneliest place. Counselling offers you the space to say things that you can’t to anyone else, and know that you won’t be judged.

My name is Elena and when we sit down together my attention is fully and exclusively for you. This is something that we rarely experience, and is why people often struggle with feelings of not being heard or seen. I create the space for you to talk and explore your feelings; what may be going on underneath the feelings and how your life experiences have shaped you. Often, we carry distorted messages about ourselves from our past, and the skill of the counsellor is in bringing these into awareness and helping you to discover what is holding you back from being the person you want to be.

I am a fully qualified and Íø±¬ÃÅ Accredited Integrative Counsellor. This means that I have trained in a carefully programmed combination of approaches: this enables me to offer you a very tailored experience of therapy. My main focus for therapy, is to enable you to find a way through whatever is troubling you, so that life is more manageable, the future more hopeful and maybe even your dreams become possible!

Practice description

You are unique

I believe therapy works best when tailored to you. Using my integrative training, I'll adapt the way we work to meet your particular needs. We may look at:

• Exploring patterns of thinking or behaving that may be holding you back

• Affirming your sense of who you are and building your self esteem

• Processing difficult experiences such as loss, bereavement, divorce, long term health issues or other traumatic situations

• Developing tools to help you manage stress, overthinking or other intrusive symptoms

• Improving how you manage relationships by looking at boundaries and communication

People can often with struggle with guilt and shame or low self-esteem and imposter syndrome. I take a compassionate approach, encouraging you to do so too.

Whatever you are feeling, and you don't need to have symptoms or a label, just talking in a safe and non-judgemental space can be really powerful.

Areas of Expertise

My practice is based on experience supporting people with:

• Depression, stress and general anxiety, in particular work-related stress

• OCD, phobias and other specific anxiety issues such as social anxiety

• Childhood trauma arising from abuse, difficult home/family situations or school experiences

• Relationship difficulties and divorce whether within the family, in friendships, at work or in the wider world

• Bereavement and loss of all kinds including miscarriage, gender disappointment, and the challenges of IVF

• Faith based issues – this may be in the form of trauma, loss of faith, confusion about faith issues, or spirituality outside of a faith or religion

Training

• Degree (FdA) in Integrative Counselling

• Professional Certificate in CBT

• Certificate Internal Family Systems

I've completed additional professional training in Trauma-Informed Practice, the Neuroscience of Attachment, CBT for Stress and Anxiety, Intergenerational Trauma and creative practice in therapy and healing.

My first session

I am aware that picking up the phone or sending that first email or text may feel daunting, and I try and make this as comfortable as possible. Once you have got in touch, I will arrange to have an initial, no obligation, telephone conversation with you before we start sessions, to get an idea of what you are looking for from therapy and answer any questions you may have.

The most important this is that you are comfortable with your counsellor, and talking to me before we start session is part of that process

There is a little paperwork at the first session, but I aim to keep this as simple as possible, so that I can spend some time listening to you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. Sometimes it's not always easy to say in the first session, what you want from counselling, and that's ok. It may take a couple of sessions for you to settle into the work and begin to see the way ahead.
