About me and my therapy practice
At Living Your Values, I offer person-centred counselling rooted in humanistic and existential approaches. My practice is founded on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence, creating a supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings without judgment. Recognizing that each individual is the expert of their own life, I facilitate self-discovery and personal growth by helping clients uncover and navigate their conscious and unconscious emotions. This process aims to empower clients to live authentically and in alignment with their core values.
In addition to counselling, I provide humanist pastoral care, engaging in meaningful dialogues to support clients during challenging times. This service focuses on exploring existential themes and finding personal meaning, assisting clients in re-balancing their lives according to their own belief systems. The support is open-ended, tailored to each individual's needs, and emphasizes the client's autonomy in making life choices.
My qualifications include a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Humanistic Studies in the Netherlands. In march 2025, I also passed my viva at Middlesex University (minor amendments) Psychology department.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (Íø±¬ÃÅ). Additionally, I am accredited as a pastoral carer through the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy (UKBHC) and the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network (NRPSN), and serve as a humanist funeral celebrant with Humanists UK.
My practice is dedicated to helping clients find meaning and purpose, striving to build an equal, compassionate, and fair world. By aligning personal values with actions, I support clients in leading fulfilling lives.
Practice description
At Living Your Values, I provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My practice is person-centred, meaning that I focus on building a strong, empathetic, and trusting relationship where you feel valued and heard. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you in discovering your own solutions and pathways to personal growth.
My approach is rooted in humanistic and existential philosophies, emphasizing authenticity, empathy, and acceptance. I encourage clients to explore their emotions at their own pace, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and their values. Through this process, clients are empowered to live more authentically and make decisions aligned with their personal beliefs.
In addition to traditional counselling, I offer humanist pastoral care. This service supports clients through challenging or transitional periods by creating space for open, reflective conversations. Whether you are grappling with loss, seeking meaning, or navigating significant life changes, I offer compassionate guidance tailored to your unique situation.
My sessions are collaborative, meaning that we work together to set goals and explore the issues that matter most to you. I strive to create a therapeutic environment where you feel safe to be yourself and where your experiences are honoured with respect and understanding.
Clients can expect a warm, respectful, and client-led approach where their autonomy and choices are at the forefront. I aim to support you in making sense of your experiences, finding meaning, and living a life that aligns with your values.
My first session
During the first session at Living Your Values, my primary focus is on creating a welcoming and comfortable environment where you can share your story at your own pace. This initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, and explore what you hope to gain from the process.
I will explain how I work, including my person-centred and humanistic approach, and we will discuss what you can expect from our sessions together. This is also a time to address any questions or concerns you may have about the therapeutic process.
The first session is slightly longer than standard sessions to allow adequate time for us to build rapport and understand your needs. I do not charge a different rate for the first session, as I believe it is an essential part of establishing a therapeutic relationship and setting the foundation for our work together.
I may ask some questions about your background and what brings you to counselling, but there is no formal assessment or pressure to disclose more than you are comfortable sharing. My aim is to create a safe and supportive space where you feel listened to and respected.
By the end of the first session, we will discuss how you feel about continuing, outline the practical aspects (such as frequency and duration of sessions), and collaboratively decide on the next steps. The session is client-led, allowing you to move at a pace that feels right for you.
