Counsellors’ perspective on their models of service and comparisons: employed, voluntary and private practise

My name is Annie Neill and I a master’s student at the University of Salford recruiting counsellors for my dissertation research study. My research question is:

Counsellors’ perspective on their models of service and comparisons: employed, voluntary and private practise.

Inclusion criteria:
- Qualified for a minimum of two years.
- Qualified and trained from a counselling/psychotherapy course at Level 4 and above.
- Must have provided a minimum of 20 hours counselling in each service: private practise, through employment and voluntary.
- All hours counted above must have been done within the last 5 years and all hours considered in the above must be post-qualification.

I am hoping to investigate counsellors’ perceptions of the three sectors and get an understanding of the experience for the counsellor in each sector before asking for a comparison. If you choose to take part, your identity will be kept anonymous, and all information will be kept secure.

Requirements:
Consenting participants will have to do a short questionnaire to get some background information and to check eligibility. From there, a recorded semi-structured interview will be done by myself through Microsoft Teams which should take around 40 minutes. I will then transcribe and thematically analyse the data.

Why take part?
Counsellors’ perceptions on counselling in each sector and choice of careers has rarely been researched. This could potentially help those looking into becoming a counsellor, those who are recently qualified or those who are qualified who are considering a change.
